What are in Vapes?
Vapes, or electronic cigarettes, contain a variety of chemicals, including:
- Propylene glycol (PG): A common base for e-liquids that helps create vapor and carries flavorings, colorings, and nicotine
- Vegetable glycerine or glycerol: Another main ingredient in vaping liquids
- Nicotine: Extracted from tobacco
- Flavorings: Can include sweeteners
- Acrolein: A toxic herbicide that can cause skin and respiratory tract irritation and irreversible lung damage
- Diacetyl: A chemical linked to bronchiolitis obliterans, also known as “popcorn lung”
- Diethylene glycol: A toxic chemical used in antifreeze that’s linked to lung disease
- Heavy metals: Such as nickel, tin, lead, and cadmium, which can cause breathing problems and disease
- Acetone: Found in nail polish remover
- 2-cholorophenol: Found in cleaning products and bug spray
